The Risk of Not Taking a Risk

The Risk of Not Taking a Risk

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool,

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental

To love is to risk not being loved in return,

To hope is to risk despair,

To try is to risk failure.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.

People engaged in every kind of human endeavor say that taking risks is the key to fulfillment and success. It is at the heart of our biggest thrills and proudest achievements. Ask someone when they felt most alive and they’ll tell you a story about a risk she took.

There come times in everyone's life when you're faced with a choice that involves risk. Perhaps you want to change careers, move to a different place, quit your job and start a business, begin a new relationship, have a child.

Risk is, by nature, scary. It's uncertain and unpredictable. You're heading off into uncharted territory. You risk criticism and humiliation, or having to pick up the pieces and start all over again. You're giving up what you know for what might be. The rewards can be great, but so can be the cost

So, why would anybody want to take a risk?

Life is all about taking risks. And we willingly take chances every day.

Risk is not only when a doctor decides to tear open human chest to operate or when one decides to jump over a cliff, there is risk in every profession and every important moment.
Be it an artist performing live ,lawyer defending an innocent, an old man crossing the road, a mother carrying baby in her womb, a child climbing the stairs……

Every time you go to sleep, you risk not waking up! But you go ahead and do it anyway.

Risk opens you up to new ideas, skills, opportunities and experiences.

Those who refuse to take risks to protect their security, willingly live in cages, trapped by their own fears. If we want to fly badly enough, we will be willing to give up being a caterpillar. Turtles can’t advance without sticking their necks out, and neither can we.

I believe we are living in an ultra-conservative environment with very low appetite for risks, if not Why is everyone always brought up saying “Take Care” and not ever encouraged anyone by asking them to “Take Risks”.

Why do we live life like: if you have an itch, wait for a few years, get a job with a six figure salary, take your parents' permission, invite a thousand people to dinner to celebrate the occasion, and then scratch it?

I heard an interesting story the other day about Koi fish.

For example if you place a Koi in a fish bowl it’ll only grow up to about three inches.

f you took that same fish and placed it in a backyard pond it’ll grow to about eighteen inches.

Most amazing though, is that if you place that same fish in a large lake, the Koi will grow to be about three feet or more.

So the fish’s growth it totally dependent on the environment it’s placed in. This is similar to our own lives and the undo limitations that we place on ourselves which are more often than not self-imposed prisons.

Ladies & gentelmen there is no reason to be satisfied in being a koi in a bowl when u know u can be a koi in a lake.

Don’t you think that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi took risks with non-violence to become the Father of the nation?

Would you not agree that Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu took risk with Kindness and tolerance to become the Mother Teresa?

Is it not true that a Greek king of Macedonia risked his life to become Alexander the Great?

Today just few moments ago, I took the risk of not disclosing the poem at the beginning was by William Arthur

Every pearl in my hand today is equally unique and precious just like everyone sitting in this room. The birth of a pearl is truly a miraculous event, each one begins its journey as an ordinary oyster and when a simple grain of sand finds its way inside an oyster's shell it sacrifices being an oyster and gets magically transformed into a beautiful pearl.

Every one refers it as a beautiful pearl and not an oyster of yesterday;

My dear friends,Taking risks is the only hope to get ourselves transformed into pearls.

Even though you can come up with a dozen good excuses for why you shouldn't take a risk, there's one great big reason why you should. And that is, until you do, your heart is going to hunger. If you don't take risks, you'll never feel quite complete.

It does not always work, but it's worth it. As you go through your life, the parts that are going to stand out are not the ones where you plodded along safely and did what was expected of you. The shining memories will be the times when you took a leap of faith, whether you won or not. It does not really matter whether you succeed or fail because every failure is a learning experience.

Place your hand on your heart, Close your eyes for a moment and ask a question to yourself as
What will I regret more? Taking the risk but losing in the end, or never knowing what might be if I take the risk?

This journey from womb to tomb is full of risks.

Someone said it and I quote

“Life isn’t a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ‘Woohoo WHAT A RIDE’!”

What can be a Tree should not die as a plant!

Take risks: if you win, you will be happy; if you loose, you will be wise.

Take Care But Take Risks!

No More Kolaveri Di!

  • See my friend standing over there? He wants to know if you think I am cute!
  • If I could rearrange alphabets, I would put U and I together.
  • Is it hot in here or is it just you?
  • Can you give me directions to your heart? I've seemed to have lost myself in your eyes.
  • If you were a tear in my eye, I wouldn't cry for fear of losing you.
  • Is that bruise from when you fell from heaven?
  • Would you touch me so I can tell my friends that an angel has touched me?
  • The only thing your eyes haven't told me is your name.
  • How does it feel to be the most beautiful girl in this room?
  • If you were a burger at McDonald's, you'd be called McGorgeous!

Companionship is something that each one of us yearns for and seeks on a constant basis. We all want to fall in love .Over the years, the meaning and the way love is pursued has changed considerably and this changed approach to relationships

People now intend to know each other well before moving in for total commitment. The status of a relationship is normally determined after a few dates, as people are avoiding taking impulsive decisions in matters of heart.

Have you just met the woman of your dreams and you want to leave no stone unturned to woo her? You will have to impress your girl in order to win a date with her. Valentine’s Day is approaching and you may not have much time to try your chances.

I do not assure that you will become a pro, but will definitely not remain a novice!

Tips for Finding A Date

Maybe some people have a hard time meeting people. Perhaps they work strange hours and that's why they never meet anyone to date.

Maybe they work with people much younger or older, or perhaps they  really don't have finely honed social skills. It could be that you're shy, private, quiet in groups or just unwilling to make the first move.

Whatever the situation, you need to take action! The first thing to do is make sure you exude self confidence.

Here are some tips on how to accomplish this:

  1.                   Give yourself a makeover, Get a new haircut or hairstyle
  2.                   Buy some new clothes and update your image
  3.                   Treat yourself to a rejuvenating vacation or break
  4.                   Go on a diet and lose a few pounds, if needed
  5.                   Improve your attitude

Dating Close to Home

Begin by looking in your own neighborhood. Is there anyone in your neighborhood or friend group who is single and awesome? Often, people stay single simply because they aren't being asked out by anyone, not because they themselves are lonely. It's time to do the asking.

Dating at Work

In general, dating at work or dating someone within your own office environment is generally not a good idea due to the possibilities for problems and the negative implications it can have on your career

Get Physical

That's right, join a gym. To find a date, you should look your best. After all, if you've set your sights high, doesn't your potential date deserve the best, too
Ask Your Friends

The most common complaint among people in their late '20s and '30s is that all their friends are married. If this is true for you, it's time to adapt. As awesome as they might be, your married friends probably will not help you find a date. They tell you they'll try, and they probably mean it, but like attracts like, and there's a good chance most of their friends are married, too.

In general, you should not look to any friends to help you find a date, though, because your friends don't necessarily know what kind of person you're looking for. The best advice is to take control and find a date yourself.

This is why you need some single friends.

Join a Club

Activities really do bring people together and help you make new friends. If you're involved in something like a craft, hobby or sport, then you've already taken the first step toward hanging out with (and possibly dating) like-minded individuals. You have something in common, and it's a great icebreaker.

Internet Dating Sites

The is the professional Internet dating and friendship sites accessible from your home computer. Most often, they are free to sign up for, so you can set up a profile and see who's in their database to find out if you're interested in that kind of people.

RECIPE

Dating Advice for Men

  • Respect your woman. Respect is essential, Do not make comments that outrage her modesty and be a decent company, so that she looks forward to see you on more dates.

A little bit of politeness never killed anyone! Women love a bit of good manners every now and then. Do don't forget to open the restaurant door when she enters and pull the chair for her like a real gentleman. Just don't overdo it; she might think you are a wimp.

·         Experience: If it is just your first date with the girl, don't expect too much on your first date. Enjoy the experience and try to make it so enjoyable that your girl looks forward to fix some more dates with you

  • Compliment your woman as soon as you see her. Just make sure your comment sounds genuine and heart-felt. Women have the ability to see through fake compliments, but they will appreciate anything that comes straight from the heart.

·         Impression : Take a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her. On Valentine’s Day, giving roses makes more sense. You can choose the color of rose according to your comfort level with the girl. It creates a good impression as no women on earth will mind roses on a date. This will also convey to her that she is special for you and that your intentions are serious.

  • Avoid asking too personal questions like about her ex, or anything potentially embarrassing. Don't be too inquisitive about her personal life. Allow her to speak for herself and listen carefully when she does!

Do not point out flaws, unless you want to make her sulk throughout the date. You obviously don’t mind some of her flaws, since she is so special for you.

·         enthusiasm: Be well-groomed. Looks do matter and go a long way in establish lasting impressions about you. Make sure you are dressed nicely and smell good. Take care that you don’t bathe in deodorant as she might just faint!

RECIPE

Dating Tips For Girls

  • Real: be real, Do not try to be someone you are not. You might have always fancied that high school cheerleader, but it wouldn't work if you try to be her on your date. Your man doesn't want to see some cheerleader. He wants to see and know you and not some wannabe you are trying to come across as.

Emotional:

  • Try to be friends with your man. Nothing will work better than being friend with your man and it will also make him feel more comfortable with you. It will allow him to open up to you and he will love you even more for that.
  • A little flirting goes a long way to make your man feel in the thick of things. It shows that you have a broad mind, exciting, fun-loving and take humor in your stride. Just make sure you don't over do it, as it may send wrong signals.

  • All said and done, remember to give the relation enough time to grow and prosper. Don't jump to conclusions about your man just after the first date, as they take longer than women to bare their heart out. So, just relax and enjoy the time you spend with him. Gradually, you will get to see his kind and affectionate side.
  • Talk about his interests and try to be an intelligent conversationalist. You certainly don’t want to bore him to death. He will appreciate that you want to know about what interests him and this will make your company exciting for him.
  • Work towards building trust, if you have already had many dates with him in the past. Every meeting should facilitate some progress in your relationship and make full use of the beautiful opportunity that Valentine’s Day is presenting you with.
  • Make an effort to look good. Men love it when their women dress up for the occasion. Who doesn’t appreciate the company of a good-looking woman? It will also make sure his eyes don't pry after other women!

When I was a kid, most of the advice that my dad gave me was crap. But there's one thing that he said that was pure genius... he said, if you're ever with a girl that's too good for you, marry her.

So in the end we meet someone. We like the look of them and they like the look of us, we laugh and chat together, we build an emotional link through conversation and knowledge and we are attracted to each other on multiple levels.

We find we have a shared experience through our backgrounds and we share similar outlook on life and oh yes, we live in the same neighborhood.

Match made in heaven?

possibly yes, probably no

Love is not just about matching; it is about instant chemistry, something enigmatic and mysterious, not quantifiable.

For all the right reasons we can fall in love in an instant with the wrong people and then again, we can simply not find it within us to love someone who appears so right.

And for that, I have no answer.

I am Sorry, my dear Animals

I am Sorry, my dear Animals

In a country as large and diverse as ours,

a festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil,

a festival as it nears our joy knows no bounds,

a festival full of celebrations,

a festival devoid of darkness

Ladies and Gentlemen that is Diwali for every one of us.

While we are busy tearing down the dates of the calendar with great eagerness, we usually remain completely oblivious to the plight of several species of animals in the city that positively dread the arrival of the festival.

Considering that Diwali is a festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, it doesn't make sense to do evil on D-Day; it is a festival of lights. Nowhere in the origin of the festival do we find any mention of firecrackers.

It's the same old story every Diwali. While thousands of people across the city celebrate the festival by bursting crackers, animals - both pet and stray - tremble with fear, as they cannot bear the loud noises.

What an Irony, that the festival of lights usually brings darkness into the lives of animals.

Diwali can seem more like a terrorist attack than a festive celebration to dogs, donkeys and other animals. It is for them the anniversary of nightmare!
What entertainment is for human beings is the bombardment for animals!
Do you know How well do dogs hear?
Very well actually. Much better than what humans can!
Many animals — such as dogs, cats, dolphins, bats, and mice — have a higher frequency limit which is greater than that of the human ear that is why such animals can hear ultrasounds. The dog can listen to a sound four times farther than what human ears can hear.

It is this incredible hearing ability of dogs, in particular, puts them at a great disadvantage, A normal cracker sounds like a bomb to dogs due to their acute hearing capability.

With their heightened sense of hearing, animals often panic, get scared and run helter-skelter on hearing the noise.

With their heightened sense of hearing, animals which get physically hurt often panic, get scared and run helter-skelter on hearing the noise.

There have been cases of pets running several kilometers in confusion, the terrified animals that flee the explosions often get lost and can’t find their way back home. Many dogs even die of cardiac arrests or go off food because they can't handle the stress during the season. Some shiver, and are prone to fits and seizures.

The situation is even worse for strays. As they do not have a home, they tend to run away from places where loud crackers are being used. In doing so, they may enter another dog's territory. So the number of casualties during this season automatically increases.

I can understand people's fascination for flower pots, but fail to understand the relish with which they burst loud bombs; Deepavali is not merely about bursting firecrackers.

In many areas people play the most inhuman game of tying firecrackers on dogs and donkeys' tails and letting them loose, watching the fun while the animals run around panic-stricken and ultimately burn themselves, Some animals when grab objects thrown towards them with their mouth imagining they were toys, and suddenly when  they explode in their mouth

Spare a thought for them - imagine the pain, hurt and trauma they have to go through!

The rockets fall into trees and burn the nests. In fear, thousands of birds abandon their nests and fly away, again to die of starvation. The anxiety can result in birds flying too far out to come back. Wild birds are frightened off their nests so their eggs get cold and the chicks die.

Hens show extremely low egg production the day after fireworks, and the eggs are often malformed as well.

But it's not just noise that affects the animals. The smoke in the air, just like it adversely affects human beings, also affects animals. It can aggravate respiratory tract diseases, cause eye allergies and bring on a skin rash.

The silver lining in this situation, and one that augurs well for animals, is that even though there are several people who continue to be lured by the sound of crackers, there is a growing number of people who have taken to celebrating the more gentle aspect of the festival - meeting elders in the family, lighting sparklers and flower pots, taking delight in lighting the house up with exquisitely designed lamps, making sweets, buying new clothes .

I always support the right of people to celebrate cultural events - but I also recognize that other people and animals have rights too.

God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages, perhaps the Animal Spirit is so great that one day it may inspire compassion in the human heart.

It just not only happens on Diwali, it happens on the every new year’s eve , for every personal milestone celebrations like marriage or birthday , cultural events, even also when an election results are declared!

Whom are we trying to please here and what good are we doing just by creating noise, is this the only to express our happiness?

I do not know how a society that likes to think of itself as evolved, enlightened, humane and civilized can tolerate any level of animal abuse

These are intelligent animals who feel love, sorrow, pain, fear, happiness… the only thing they are incapable of feeling - or understanding - is hate. But I guess they have us for that.

I am Sorry MY dear animals.

I look up and I see God, I look down and see my dog.
Simple spelling G-O-D, same word backwards, D-O-G.
I look up and I see God, I look down and see my dog.

EXPERIMENTS WITH TRUTH

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth, if you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Let me share few experiences of shy and ordinary kid

This kid In spite of being warned by his family he continued to be in bad company of friends, he said that he wanted to reform them but instead got transformed himself.

Though hailing from a strict vegetarian family a friend of him convinced him to eat meat stating that people who are stronger were because they ate meat and there is no other alternative to be strong.
He told his mother cock - and - bull stories for skipping the dinner at home. For a year, his friend arranged to eat meat in secret for which he had to lie frequently.

His friend once took him to a brothel. It was all prearranged. The bill had already been paid. He almost went into the jaws of sin, but somehow could not proceed any further.

They simply imagined a sort of pleasure in emitting clouds of smoke from their mouths.  They desperately wanted to smoke but for that they had no money to buy cigarettes. So eventually they decided to steal from the servant's pocket money in order to purchase cigarettes.
As an act of awakening, At last, in sheer disgust, they decided to commit suicide but feared death too so their attempt to commit suicide was unsuccessful.

He looked like a lizard on a rock — alive, but looking dead.

When grew up he was married at a young age. For him wedding meant no more than wearing new clothes, eating sweets and playing with relatives

Initially he was jealous and possessive husband, sometimes also used to beat her up. During this time he faced his first great conflict between duty and desire.

His father was very ill and had to be at his service and regularly gave him massage.
One night while nursing his sick father he slipped upstairs to share his wife’s bed, At this moment his father died, the servant comes to him and says your father is no more.

His first impulse was "My god what have i done, the animal passion has blinded me”, I should have been massaging him, and he would have died in my arms.
He was as shocked as a bird landing on a live wire.

Later when he returned after the higher studies abroad after 4 years he learned that his mother is no more and his family had not informed about this to him. The pain was as if someone has cut a deep hole in his heart.

Though coming from a fairly well off family .As he grew older he realized the importance of life and he had decided to dedicate his life to social work.

At that time plague had broken out , so he offered his service for improving the sanitation. He took the broom cleaned the public toilets which were filled with filth and dirt.
All this was not being liked by his elder son and he rebelled and when his son broke away from the family, he was dejected disgusted and devastated.

In order to set an example to himself he took the vow of celibacy to save money he had to cut his own hair and wash his clothes.

Who would have imagined that this disappointed, shy, soft-spoken, average student, who at one point experimented with eating meat, smoking, stealing, lying went on to become the a man who made humility and simple truth more powerful than empires.

a living legend. a living legacy.-- --- The great soul   - the Mahatma

Albert Einstein added, "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth."
Each of his experience was inevitably an experiment with truth and each experiment had its results –

Learning to experiment is the learning to fail and also the learning to lead

The true method of knowledge is experiment.

Every great inspiration is but an experiment.
All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.
Because when we live life as an experiment, we are far more willing to take risks, to acknowledge
failure, to learn and develop. That's what experiments are all about: discovery and growth

A fool is a man who never tried an experiment in his life.
Life is too short not to experiment.

Everybody's a mad scientist, and life is their lab. We're all trying to experiment to find a way to live,
to solve problems, to fend off madness and chaos.

You've got to experiment to figure out what works.

Explore the experiment to experience and exceed the expectation

Past is Experience...!

Future is Expectations...!

Present is Experiments...!

Learning about Gandhi has stressed to me the truth that one person can make a difference.

Yes one person can make a difference.

That the person you see in the mirror everyday while brushing your teeth and combing your hair is the person responsible for your life. Yes.

That, is none other than yourself.

Ragging Moments

A group of seniors got hold of me and asked to tell them “The Hare and Tortoise story”, I thought that should be easy and then would escape from them. Ask me, after a good five hours, why I couldn't even start the race of the hare and tortoise. The questions that I had to answer!

1) Who was the rabbit     2) what was his name   3) What was the gender    4) where did it live   5) did rabbit use cosmetics 6) Is tortoise female if so was it carrying 7) where was the jungle is it Wi-Fi enabled 8) who conducted the race which committee? 9) Names and colors of the trees in the jungle 10) who were the audience?
Boy, I was huffing and puffing for air as if I myself had taken part in some marathon

After that when I said them I am hungry, to quench my thirst they asked me to make love to a tree , that is how I expressed myself for the first time to a living organism called Peepal tree. Emerging relatively unscathed from hugging, cuddling and smooching the tree, my next task was to play cricket in the cafeteria's approach road

Sounds simple?
Try playing it by yourself, where you are the bowler who goes to the top of the run up, run down and bowl, run to the other end of the wicket and bat, run to the boundary region as the fielder to collect the ball and throw it in, run back to behind the imaginary wickets to play the wicketkeeper, run to the other end to become the umpire giving the batsman out, go back to the other end and start walking back to the pavilion
Then I was told to recite a poem on not ‘The undertaker’ but ‘The underwear’,

Wrinkle wrinkle, little cloth
Now I wonder where you are
Deep below inside you hide
Like a butter you will slide
Wrinkle wrinkle, little cloth
Now I wonder where you are

Then a series of such things followed that were both hilarious and ridiculous. Night after night, as soon as we returned from college, some of us would become prey to a senior vampire

I when once relented was kept standing under bathroom-shower throughout the night, wearing clothes and shoes, as time progressed we specialized in Swimming on the floor, skipping without rope, snake dance, pole dance, cabaret any more…..

There was certain naming convention to students in my college :

When u are a male fresher in your first year--- faccha ,
in second year u will be promoted as baccha ,
and then later designation changes to bada bachha ,
finally in the 4th year become the man who matters the baap.

Similary for girls it would be facchi, bacchi, baadi bacchi and Maa.

By the time we graduated we all became maaa---- baaaps in the class.

But the irony was that there was mad race for female offspring’s on campus

Every faccha wanted a facchi
Every baccha desired a bacchi
Each bada baccha needed a bada bacchi
And after every maa there were at least 4 different baaaps.

Another category existed for girls they were rated in order of feelings

if you thought OK –the she was referred as DAAL

if you say WOW then – she is a MAAAL ,

When your saliva is drooping from the mouth – then it is KAMAAL

And if 2 eyes are not enough to handle the hotness -- DHAMAAL

If you get a dhamaal then u become MAALA MAAL.

One day when I became baap, I saw a dhamaal l in a body hugging skin tight yellow dress, I called her( using whistle) to salute me , she smiled at me

I thought I was going to get a MAA for my bacchas ,and I already short listed the honeymoon destinations

When I was in the class , suddenly the yellow dressed girl came into the class and announced ,

“good morning students, I am I am samsakara , and I shall be handling this class”

That is when my all honeymoon were converted into acidmoon.

Ragging brought into us more creativity, removed our shyness and helped us to know more about ourselves.

It was all done in the spirit of fun, and the underlying principle was familiarization. Like “One peg whisky makes you fit”, limited amount of ragging can make you a strong Man.

Today after so many years I still laugh my lungs out whenever there is any remote reference made to a hare and tortoise, peepal tree, yellow dress, pole dance.

I believe “Everybody laughs in the same language” and If I were not be allowed to laugh in heaven, I don't want to go there either”

I almost got married then, but after 6 years I have one last thing to say

One peg of whisky full ya quarter , PLEASE
Don’t say this speech to my wife or daughter.
